La Palma - The Lively Southeast

From Santa Cruz southwards, between the slopes of the Cumbre and the sea, the landscape of the Breñas (Breña Alta and Breña Baja) stretches in green, gentle hills, interspersed with houses and villas with gardens. Around the settlements, there are fruit and banana plantations all the way down to the coast.

From Mazo to Fuencaliente vineyards come to the fore. The tunnel on the way from Santa Cruz to El Paso is often the weather divider on La Palma. You drive in by rain and come out the other side to clear sunshine. On the way to the tunnel you first pass spurge plants, then fruit and vegetable plantations and finally the Laurel- and Fayal brezal forest.
