Gale bush (faya) and tree heath (brezo) often grow together on La Palma in the transition area between the laurel forests and pine forests. The bog shrub can grow up to 20 meters high, the tree heath up to twelve meters.
The vegetation, called Fayal-Brezal, also grows mixed with the laurel forest. It is mainly found in the northeastern part of La Palma and on the eastern slopes of the Cumbre near Breña Alta and Mazo.
